Freetown and Black Sunshine. Soon after Freetown picked up the young Luke to work in promotions for their rapidly expanding dance label that went on to sign such acts as Robert Owens, Master at Work, Kerri Chandler, Ron Trentand Lee John.
Meanwhile Luke's DJing career was taking off after a humble start DJing at his university in Middlesex. By 1995 he was a resident DJ on the now legendary pirate radio station 'Girls FM' where he met his partner in crime, Kenny Hawkes. This partnership spawned their residency at 'Space', in central London's Bar Rumba which has just celebrated it's fifth birthday and continues to attract big name DJ's such as Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, Francois Kevorkian, Carl Cox and Dave Morales. By this point Luke had also moved on from Freetown to work in A&R for Roger Sanchez and Marts Andrups.In 1996 Luke began recording with Rob Mello from Sensory Productions, under the artist names of 'Heaven and Earth' and 'Purple Haze', with tracks released on PrescriptionUnderground, Freetown and Guidance. They also released tracks on Luke's new label, Classic Music Company, which was formed with Chicago don, Derrick Carter and Luke's own label spin off, Acid. Justin Harris soon entered the arena and they began producing under the guises of Freaks, The Electric Imbalance Allstars, Robotic Movement and The Unknown. By 1999 the label Music For Freaks was established which unleashed their own freaky, formidable creations on the world and has grown alongside Classic to be one of most highly regarded dance labels of it's time.
Freaks are now well into recording their forth studio album ' Psych.' This being the sequel to 2003' 'the man who lived underground.. Freaks intend to take the album away from Music for Freaks and are currently in talks with various labels, riding strong of the back of theirbiggest selling single, The Creeps.
Over the last 2 years Freaks have continued to remix a whole heap of artists from all kinds of musical genres. Damon Albarn, Kasabian, Riton, telepopmusik, to name a few.
Luke has hung up is title as company director and Derrick Carter and himself are bringing classics 12 inch output to an end . They have completed a double cd entitled a classic decade. The follow up the big selling thanks for coming by, due out in September this year.
Luke has also finished a mix cd for KSR in Japn, also due for release in September this year, entitled mix this.
Freaks also continue to release limited material on their DIY label, wash house.Still as busy as ever Luke continues to travel the world and DJ, having just finished another tour of Australia . And Djing in Chicago once every couple of months. The classic residency at the end goes from strength to strength.
