Nathan Doe

Versatility is something that a number of Dj's claim to have but never seem to be able to back up. That certainly can't be said for 25 year old DJ/Producer Nathan Doe.

Influence from wide range of dj's and procuders from across the globe and clubbing trips in cities such as

Barcelona , Berlin and San Francisco have helped define Nathan's sound. Incorporating lush, deep grooves and full of diverse worldwide beats, Nathan's eclectic DJing has undoubtedly been influenced by his unique quest to hear the planets finest sounds. Be it the West Coast grooves of Lance Desardi, minimal house of Poker Flat's Steve Bug, African beats of Masters At Work, or Detroit techno of Jeff Mills, versatility is the name of the game and the first thing to expect if you've yet to see Nathan behind the decks.

Nathan Doe first fell in love with electronic music as a result of the UK Rave Scene from the early 1990's. Whilst most kids were out in the park Nathan would be indoors listening to mix tapes at the start of a musical journey that is so far 12 years strong. From the very start he took an interest in the DJ's ability to manipulate tracks to form new soundscapes. This led to the purchasing of a set of decks and an immediate addiction to that black crack otherwise known as vinyl.

However it was meeting up with two DJs from his home town in 1999 which played a major turning factor in Nathan's development as a disciple of house music. The awesome sets of Cecil Moore and George Andrews in the back street bars of Gabriels, Drakes and Banks in Maidstone, Kent gave Nathan the starting block to learn the skills behind layering sounds and feeding off crowds. The kind of energy created by George and Cecil in these smokey, low roofed venues have been responsible for a whole host of stories and is replicated through the hypnotic grooves of Nathan's music, something you cannot escape once he's got your attention.

"George and Cecil without any doubt played the key role in shaping my musical development. Their back-to-back sets were allways brilliant and covered the entire spectrum of house. It was a tremendous education in how to work a dance floor."

With this teaching under his belt, Nathan embarked on a similar mission to provide entertainment via quality, underground music courtesy of labels like Tango, Om, Naked Music and Offset to name a few.

Doe's travels to many of dance music's key locations have also provided him with the opportunity to appreciate how different crowds react to different sounds and the skill of the DJ to read a crowd. "Events like Sonar and Glastonbury have been real eye openers. I've seen how the very best artists are intelligent enough to adapt their set according to their surroundings. This is something I've taken on board and try to employ every time I play."

This has helped considerably in Nathan's ability to work the decks with a number of resident and guest slots being rewarded to him. Key highlights in his DJ career this far include performances alongside Calum Walker (Fresh and Low), Justin Drake (Peace Division), Nic Fanculli (ClubClass / Buick Project), Rhythm Plate (Flat & Round) and Loco Dice (DC10).

In the recent years Nathan has used his vast music knowledge to turn his hand to production, culminating in some fantastic Deep tracks. In 2004, alongside studio partner Mike Craske, Nathan had his first release on vinyl through UK label Offset Music. A quality slice of Deep West Coast house named 'Jacobs Groove', the track gained great reviews from DJ Magazine and DMC Update scoring 4 out of 5 in both. 2005 has again seen Nathan feature heavily in the studio with more solid deepness on the agenda. Productions 'Gut Feeling' and 'Settled Down' have both been signed to Greenhouse Soul whilst interest has also been expressed in his Infectious Audio project from Developed Music.

This year has also seen Nathan join forces with good friends Nick Carter, Graeme Doyle and Duncan King to form Deep South music (www.deepsouth-music.com). This house collective has started off tremendously through two highly successful launch parties; in May at Trafik in Shoreditch, London with Olivier Desmet, and then in July at River, Maidstone with Fabric resident Nathan Coles. With a plethora of amazing guests on the horizon including Lo/Rez (Flat & Round), Inland Knights and the Electric Press ( 20:20 ) already confirmed, the night promise to be a true launch pad for Nathan's career.
